Behaviour Change

Learning behaviour change can be a tricky thing. Attached below is a little video of one such example that I’ve learned recently. Even though this is a fun/silly example, I still think it captures the essence of how a lot of people get stuck.

Essentially, I learned a new, faster way of tying my shoelaces. But even though it’s faster, it requires a lot more mental energy for me. Why? Because that behaviour, the neural pathways and the muscle memory are all so ingrained to keep going with the old, even though the new way is more efficient. It also has a secondary benefit of feeling like a magic trick, which appeals to me!

And doesn’t this ring true for so many behaviours? We get stuck in old ways and old patterns because they’re familiar and they’re what our brain knows how to do. To learn a new way means creating new neural pathways. It means using conscious effort. And our brains are wired to be lazy – even if it means doing something that is no longer beneficial.

And hypnosis can help! Whether it’s something as simple as shoelaces or something more significant, hypnosis can help begin and expedite that process. Training your conscious and unconscious mind in new patterns, to get better outcomes.
