Pain is real – and so is your ability to change how you experience it. Whether you’re living with chronic pain or recovering from an injury or surgery, hypnotherapy offers a powerful, evidence-based way to reduce pain, calm the nervous system, and restore your sense of control.
At Chameleon Hypnosis, my aim is to help you to ease both the physical and emotional burden of pain, helping you reconnect with comfort, confidence, and quality of life.
Understanding Pain: Mind and Body
Pain isn’t just physical – it’s processed through your brain, shaped by your emotions, memories, and beliefs. For those with chronic pain conditions, this can mean the body keeps sending pain signals even after the original injury has healed.
Hypnotherapy helps by calming the brain’s pain pathways, shifting the way your body interprets and responds to pain. In some cases, pain levels can be significantly reduced – or even turned off completely.
Conditions Hypnotherapy Can Support
Hypnosis can be effective in managing:
- Chronic pain conditions (e.g. fibromyalgia, arthritis, back pain)
- Headaches and migraines
- IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
- Phantom limb pain
- Acute pain from injury, dental work, or medical procedures
- Post-surgical recovery
- Pain worsened by stress, anxiety, or emotional trauma
Even when pain cannot be completely eliminated, hypnotherapy can reduce its intensity, increase your ability to cope, and improve your day-to-day functioning.
How Hypnotherapy Helps with Pain
Hypnotherapy works by guiding you into a deeply relaxed state where your brain becomes more receptive to change. From here, we can:
- Dial down pain intensity and frequency
- Reduce muscle tension and inflammation
- Calm stress and anxiety that can amplify pain
- Strengthen your body’s natural healing response
- Rebuild your sense of ease, safety, and resilience
- Reconnect you with areas of comfort in your body
I tailor each session to your needs, combining clinical hypnosis with psychotherapy, counselling, and cognitive strategies – because pain isn’t just physical, and neither is healing.
How long does it take?
I normally recommend a treatment plan of between 4-6 one-hour sessions, spread over 6-10 weeks. This allows us the necessary time to utilise multiple approaches to help manage your pain. Although some people do experience instantaneous resolution, it is more common (especially with chronic pain) to make incremental progress as you learn new strategies, and your brain starts to create new neural pathways. Additionally, at least one session will focus on teaching self-hypnosis, to empower you with the skills you need to manage your pain (and any other problems you might face) on your own.
Online or In-Person Sessions
Appointments are available via Zoom across Australia, or in-person in South Australia at Integrative Health Solutions in Belair.
Hypnotherapy can complement medical treatment, physiotherapy, and other allied health support—and I’m happy to collaborate with your broader care team.
